A fire pump system is a key part of a water-based fire protection system. It increases the pressure of a water source when it’s not enough for the system it’s supplying.
Fire pumps work by:
- Taking water from the water supply
- Increasing the pressure
- Delivering the water via the pipe system to the fire sprinklers
- Suppressing the fire
Fire pumps are typically powered by electricity, steam, or combustible fuel. They have three main parts:
- Speed increaser/pump transmission
- Impeller shaft assembly
- Pump body
